Meet Harimandir
Artist Statement for All Time
All of life suggests to me an accumulation of layers:
My own human body a bag composed of malleable tissues
covering a framework of hard tissues,
my psyche, laminated with a lifetime of emotions and beliefs
(Including the false beliefs that block me from greater truths)
formed from an accumulation of experience and memories
stacked one upon another
supported by the DNA and habits that hold them in place,
The Great Mother Planet Earth molten rock at her core,
Her surface supporting all life with countless biospheres
composed of layers of hard and soft matter
infused with and covered with teeming life both seen and unseen
enveloped in ever thinning layers of atmosphere.
We discover clues about the past from under and within
sheets of ice, rock, sand and soil revealing
some ancient city unearthed to expose the ruins of another,
primitive art with its layering of images and the remains of beings long extinct
silently whispering their pre-historic secrets.
Religion, culture, history, mythology with their layers of meaning
and significance evolving and devolving over time
and the work of the tides and the sands of time changing and arranging:
adding here, taking away there, burying and exposing,
washing away there, washing up here.
Music: harmonious layers of sound
Pearls: layers of nacre laid down over an irritant
Lasagna: layers of cheese, sauce and noodles!
These things and my life stories are what my paintings are about.
